Advisory
Sims Latham Associates is always looking to the future. Over the past 25 years, we have acted as advisors to governments, universities and industry helping them be aware of the latest technical advances and economic changes.
As advisors to the government we sat on the Information Highway Advisory Council (advisory body to the Canadian government on the Internet) to assist in the creation of Canadian government policy for the Web. We remained advisors to the federal government for technology and social policy for many years. Together we explored ways to bring all Canadians up to speed with the newest technologies, from the youngest to the oldest and from the richest to the poorest. Especially we identified online learning as a key media for future education and helped establish international standards.
As advisors to universities we researched the critical issue of the management of online learning in Canadian universities as they change to accommodate the growing new medium. We also introduced them to the latest techniques and technologies for developing elearning itself.
As advisors to industry we have modelled, surveyed and analyzed areas from feedstock sourcing for the fish farming industry, to economic development for a first nation with a casino, to evaluating financial pools for satellite launch risk management. Sims Latham staff have also managed technical projects such as planning broadband coverage and initiating teletext services using spare bandwidth for a major U.K.television company.
We have always encouraged our staff to look out to the community and, as a result, our senior staff have sat on government, business, non-profit and academic Boards and Committees including, for example, chairing an audit committee of a large captive insurance company and acting as a Treasurer for a small arts cooperative housing association. We therefore bring an increased depth and width to the diverse intellectual and practical skills we offer our clients.
