About Sims Latham

The SLA Group was founded in 1984 as a consultancy for organizations looking to improve staff training. Our strong background in education, from university-level educational research and curriculum design to authoring books on education, naturally drew us into the world of computer-based training and e-learning. Our vision was to use the emerging technologies to provide more compelling and exciting teaching and learning experiences. This was especially true for adult, continuing education, where the need was to reach people over a wide distance and at times that were convenient to those in the workforce.

For 20 years SLA has been engaged in research to determine the most effective ways to use the new technologies to deliver educational products that truly work for the learner. We also help organizations to solve their training problems and develop online courses tailored to their specific learner requirements and characteristics.

The company principals, Michael Raggett and Patricia Latham, believe that their close involvement in every project is key to the company’s success – a benefit that many clients cherish about this boutique consultancy. Maintaining a small selection of clients, SLA team members have the luxury of working on a project from start to finish in order to ensure a high-quality educational product.

SCORM

SLA’s early interest and adoption of SCORM goes back to the precursors of SCORM. SLA was an advisor to Industry Canada who held the Canadian membership in the IMS Global Learning Consortium. IMS standards, including the content packing, make up a large part of SCORM today.

Many of our course development projects conform to SCORM standards and use ThinkingCap for course authoring and delivery, which ensures SCORM compliance.

Our focus on SCORM comes solely from a desire to protect our client’s investment in content development.
